Guru snags sales agent for Asia

In a move to expand its activity in Asia, Toronto, Canada-based Guru Studio has named Small Screen Distribution the sales agent for all of its current series in the region, starting with preschool show Justin Time.

Toronto, Canada-based Guru Studio has named Small Screen Distribution as its sales agent in Asia for all current series, starting with preschool show Justin Time.

Small Screen, led by industry vet Kerry Novick, will handle all TV and home entertainment rights in the territory, including Japan, China, India, Korea and all of Southeast Asia.

Novick has already locked in two deals for Justin Time. The first is sub-licensing broadcast, digital, licensing and publishing rights of Justin Time to Ciwen Media Group, in a deal covering China, Macau, Hong Kong and Taiwan. The second is a broadcast deal with Tiga in Thailand for the first two seasons of the series.

Small Screen Distribution joins Guru Studio’s existing network of global agents, including Jetpack (EMEA), Knockout Licensing (US), RTL Licensing (Germany) and Kaynak (Turkey).

Novick formed Small Screen in 2004 to provide sales representation in Asia for children’s entertainment producers. Most recently, the New York-based company was appointed by Genius Brands International as its sales agent for Asia.
