In an effort to get kids up and moving, Canadian pubcaster Kids’ CBC will start airing new live-action series The Moblees on December 22.

Based on theatrical production The Ohmies (Laurie Miller, Benjamin Tollefson), The Moblees is produced by Boulevard and Shaftesbury,  in association with the CBC. It will air weekdays at 8 a.m. EST on CBC across Canada.

Geared towards kids ages three to five, the series aims to inspire healthy changes like getting more physical activity and eating nutritious foods. Kids also get a chance to join in the action through direct-to-camera address and playful participation sequences, and each episode features a movement-centric and song-driven adventure.

As a multiplatform “MOVEMENT Movement,” The Moblees is extending the experience beyond the TV screen to include online activities for kids at kidscbc.ca/moblees and healthy tips and recipes for parents at cbc.ca/parents.

The Moblees and Kids’ CBC will also partner with Canadian fitness org ParticipACTION to explore additional outreach opportunities.

The series debuts as a 2014 report card from Healthy Active Kids Canada gives the country a D-minus in overall physical activity. The report found only 15% of three to fours and 5% of five-year-olds are meeting the Canadian physical activity and sedentary behavior guidelines, while another report found preschoolers spend an average of 50% of their waking time in sedentary activities.
