UK-based Egmont Publishing is set to produce a range of children’s books and magazines based on the upcoming Teletubbies reboot after acquiring the international licensing rights from DHX Brands.

The preschool range is expected to roll out in the UK, and across Egmont’s 30 international territories, in spring/summer 2016 and will include story books, coloring, sticker and activity books, annuals, novelty books and sound books, as well as a stand-alone Teletubbies magazine.

Egmont joins a growing list of licensees for the refreshed IP, which recently saw Ravensburger (themed puzzles), MV Sports (wheeled and outdoor toys), International Greetings (arts & crafts), Gemma (greeting cards) and Rainbow Productions (costume characters) come on-board through UK-based licensing agent CPLG.

The property’s global master toy partner Character Options has also signed on to create plush, plastic and bath toys that will launch in the UK in 2016, with additional territories to follow.

Commissioned by CBeebies, the new 60-episode Teletubbies series is being produced for DHX Media by UK-based prodco Darrall Macqueen. It is expected to air by the end of 2015.

The original series launched in 1997 and went on to air in more than 120 countries in 45 languages. It was the first Western preschool show to air on China’s CCTV and the property will soon be available on China National Television’s yet-to-be-named streaming service in partnership with DHX.
