The adventures of the Octonauts may take place underwater, but UK-based Silvergate Media is expanding the brand on American soil, signing New York-based Licensing Street to build a secondary licensing program in the US.
The animated preschool series follows Captain Barnacles and his crew, who take on missions to protect underwater sea life. It launched in 2010 on CBeebies (who recently signed for a fourth season) in the UK and debuted State-side on Disney Channel in 2012.
Among Silvergate’s licensing partners for the series are Penguin, Fisher-Price, nCircle Entertainment and Leapfrog. Last year, Octonauts also partnered with the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to spotlight ocean exploration and science.
