Characters from the boys action series Slugterra are set to slug it out on the big screen, in a new movie set for US theatrical release on August 2. Slugterra: Return of the Elementals will debut courtesy of Shout! Factory, Screenvision and Nerd Corps Entertainment.
The 70-minute film will run in select US theaters. In Slugterra: Return of the Elementals, a new member joins the Shane Gang – Junjie, a master of the mysterious slug-slinging art of Slug Fu. More information on listings and links to book tickets can be found at SlugterraOnScreen.com. The movie continues the story from the TV series currently airing on Disney XD.
The past few months have also seen a number of successful free-TV launches for Slugterra. Most recently, the series launched on UK-based boy-skewing channel KIX on May 30, and was the highest rated show on the channel on the day it premiered. The show is also slated to launch on sister-channel POP later this summer. (Both channels were acquired by Sony through its purchase of parentco CSC Media in late June.)
Last month, Nerd Corps announced that it had secured its 50th licensee for the boys action property. Panini has signed on as Slugterra’s 50th licensee, as a publishing partner in France, Spain and Portugal with rights for stickers, trading card games, magazines and other publishing.
