UK-based media group Coolabi has started production on its new stop-motion animation series Scream Street, which will air in the UK on CBBC starting in 2016.

Coolabi Group also signed ZDF Enterprises as the global TV distributor for the series—excluding the UK, US  and Australia—and will also take on the German merchandising rights for the IP. Footage of the 52 x 11-minute show targeting eight- to 10-year-olds will debut at MIPCOM in October.

Based on the 13-book series written by Tommy Donbavand and published by Walker Books, Scream Street tells the story of average teenager Luke Watson, who also happens to be a werewolf. When the government finds out about his transformative gene, his family is moved to Scream Street, where the residents include a mishmash of surfer-zombies, fashionable witches, sarcastic vampires and other monsters.

The show will be produced by Manchester, England-based animation studio Factory TM, while the cast ensemble will be created by Mackinnon & Saunders, the puppet and model-makers behind Fantastic Mr. Fox and Frankenweenie.
