Sesame Street extends to China on-demand

Sesame Street episodes will debut on China-based BesTV's VOD platforms, including IPTV, digital TV and OTT devices. The agreement between BestTV New Media and the non-profit org Sesame Workshop also includes content licensing, digital marketing, mobile apps and co-development of educational content.

Big Bird has a new friend in China. Sesame Street episodes will debut on the country’s BesTV’s VOD platforms, including IPTV, digital TV and OTT devices. The agreement between BestTV New Media and nonprofit org Sesame Workshop also includes content licensing, digital marketing, mobile apps and co-development of educational content.

While Big Bird first wandered Sesame Street in the US in 1969, his first trip to China came in 1983 for the TV special Big Bird in China. More than 30 years later, one of the featured programs to be co-produced with Shanghai Media Group will be Sesame Street’s Big Bird Looks at the World.

BesTV also recently partnered with Ciwen Media Group for BuddiesTV, an on-demand content platform throughout China that will offer shows including Franklin and Friends, Jelly Jam, and Slugterra. Adding Elmo, Lily and the rest of Sesame Workshop’s characters will only boost their children’s educational content.

Last week, the Prix Jeunesse International announced Sesame Street as the kids show with the greatest impact over the last half-century.
