Over its five-month existence, it looks like TV and learning app Hopster has played significant catch-up to trailblazer Netflix, claiming that it has surpassed the SVOD giant in terms of the size of U-rated preschool TV content.

The iPad-based service, which is now extending to the iPhone and iPod Touch, has also confirmed a seven-figure investment from a group of UK investors, including senior media executives Bhavneet Singh (Pearson, Viacom), Tony Orsten (twofour54, The Imaginarium), the Angel CoFund (investors in YPlan and PlayJam, among others) and Davina McCall (TV presenter and media entrepreneur).

The iOS expansion comes as more than 77% of UK families with kids ages two six already have access to an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.

More than 700 U-rated episodes of preschool content are currently live on the service, which was launched late last year by former Viacom exec Nick Walters as an ad-free platform featuring episodes of licensed content and interactive learning games.
