Apple names top kids apps of 2013


Disney Animated has been crowned 2013′s iPad app of the year, according to Apple’s annual Best of iTunes list, which also made its picks for the year’s most innovative children’s apps.

Overall, the two games with the most downloads for the year were free app Candy Crush Saga and paid app Minecraft – Pocket Edition.

According to the iTunes Editor’s Choice roundup, language learning app Duolingo has been named app of the year. Toca Hair Salon Me, meanwhile, was named among the most innovative iPhone kids apps of the year along with The Human Body by TinyBop, Dora Appisode: Perrito’s Big Surprise, Sago Mini Doodlecast, Color Zen Kids and Little Red Riding Hood by Nosy Crow.

As for the ambitious Disney Animated, the US$10 iPad app gives fans unparalleled access to content including text, art, sound, images, interviews and interactive activities that span all eras of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ history.

    You botched a few facts on this one. Hair Salon Me and Doodlecast were both listed among most innovative kids apps on iPhone, but there were six in total without any singled out as number one. And on iPad, Doodlecast didn’t earn any End of Year accolades.

    Also Endless Alphabet was a runner up for iphone App of the Year.

    My daughters love the Toca Hair Salon Me app – I think Candy Crush Saga is a little too old for them, however. They really love the Peppa Pig Happy Mrs Chicken app, it’s fun and educational!
