Rovio’s ToonsTV to start featuring third-party content

Finnish multimedia company Rovio Entertainment is prepping for a second Angry Birds Toons animated series following news of its primarily in-app ToonsTV channel topping a billion views. The video distribution platform is also gearing up to host a range of third-party content for the first time.

Finnish multimedia company Rovio Entertainment is prepping for a second Angry Birds Toons animated series following news of its primarily in-app ToonsTV channel topping a billion views. The video distribution platform is also gearing up to host a range of third-party content for the first time.

The company’s video platform ToonsTV channel, which launched back in March, will star airing new Angry Birds episodes next year.

The content currently in development includes Angry Birds Toons Season 2, a dedicated series for Bad Piggies and a dedicated series for Stella, the pink bird. In addition to the original series, Rovio is introducing third-party content to ToonsTV, including the worldwide launch of Stan Lee’s Chakra the Invincible from POW! Entertainment and Graphic India, as well as shorts, specials and series from Hasbro Studios’ classic brands. Other third-party series include National Geographic Kids’ Amazing Animals, Fraggle Rock from The Jim Henson Company, and Oggy & the Cockroaches, Zig & Sharko and Space Goofs from Xilam Animation.

Rovio’s ToonsTV channel is housed across the Angry Birds suite of gaming apps, select video-on-demand channel providers, Smart TVs and other connected devices. Additionally,  Angry Birds Toons airs on more than 20 broadcast TV networks around the world.
