As Cinedigm looks to beef up its children’s DVD business by 25% this year, the home entertainment distributor has acquired the exclusive North American home video, VOD and digital rights to animated preschool franchise The Hive.
The deal covers all 26 x half-hour episodes of the series, which airs in more than 150 global markets, including Disney Junior in the US.
The agreement sees Cinedigm teaming with Hive Enterprises, Bejuba! and Disney Junior to help exploit ancillary rights to the franchise. In November, Cinedigm will launch three new thematic DVDs, each with 80 minutes worth of programming, and it will bring the complete first season to digital platforms.
The series launched in October 2012 and Joester Loria Group was appointed to rep the brand in the US this past winter.
Cinedigm, for its part, holds digital content aggregation deals with platforms including iTunes, Netflix, Hulu and Amazon. Cinedigm’s library currently exceeds 20,000 programs and more than 40,000 hours.
