Disney-produced telenovela Violetta, which has pulled down significant ratings in Latin American, Italy, France and Spain, is heading to Disney Channel UK on July 22.

The property, now in its second season, was viewed by 20 million people across Europe earlier this year and currently racks up more YouTube searches than Katy Perry and Lady Gaga in Italy, Spain and France. The English version is being dubbed as the UK channel’s first “soap” for kids.

The 80 x 45-minute series, filmed in Argentina, tells the story of a talented teenager who returns to her native Buenos Aires after many years living in Europe. More than half of the show’s crew hails from Europe. Violetta is created by Disney Channel Latin America and Disney Channels Europe, Middle East and Africa, in association with Argentine production company Pol-ka.
