And so it begins. In an exclusive presentation at Licensing Show, Lucasfilm has been officially welcomed into Disney Consumer Products’ vast franchise portfolio.

DCP also announced plans to focus on the consumer by aligning its content library with each consumer segment, with an emphasis on product innovation, technology, and long-term franchise development.

With powerhouse franchises such as Star Wars and Marvel’s Avengers and Spider-Man, new feature content from Disney/Pixar and Disney’s animation and live action studios (Planes and Maleficent), as well as the original programming strengths of Disney Junior’s Sofia the First and Doc McStuffins, DCP is aiming for big fiscal returns in 2014 and beyond.

Some highlights of DCP’s upcoming licensing and retail opportunities include:

-New Star Wars movies kicking off with the J.J. Abrams-directed Star Wars: Episode VII, set for 2015, as well as Star Wars Rebels, the new animated TV series scheduled to premiere in fall 2014 as a one-hour special on Disney Channel followed by a series on Disney XD channels worldwide.

-In the lead up to The Avengers sequel in 2015, new Marvel films Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World will hit theaters in November 2013 followed by Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier in April 2014,The Amazing Spider-Man 2 for May 2014, and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy in August 2014.

-Disney’s 3D-animated comedy adventure feature Planes, which will premiere on August 9, 2013, will offer a merchandise program featuring toys, social, fashion, home and books.

-A new boys product line based on Disney/Pixar’s original feature The Good Dinosaur (May 2014).

Sofia the First products from the likes of Mattel, JAKKS Pacific, and Jay Franco available this summer, upcoming apparel and home décor products based on Doc McStuffins, and a new Jake and the Never Land Pirates Lego Duplo line for later this summer.

-Disney Channel’s Teen Beach Movie (July 19, 2013) will feature a licensed merchandise line of tween products across apparel, home décor, fashion dolls, school supplies and publishing.

-Products based on the Walt Disney Studios spring 2014 movie Muppets Most Wanted will be unveiled in late 2013 and into 2014 across all segments at major retailers while toys, role-play and seasonal categories are planned to compliment the July 2014 release of Maleficent.

-An extensive merchandising program focused on two princesses and two castles is expected based on Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Frozen, a feature coming this November featuring voice work by Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel.

-Products spanning apparel, accessories, beauty, consumer electronics and home décor are also expected for iconic characters Mickey and Minnie.
