Spain-based children’s prodco Vodka has named toy company Simba as the master toy licensee for the multiplatform Bugsted brand.

Aimed at a tween audience, Bugsted will consist of a 13 x one-minute TV mini-series, a game app for iPhone, iPad and Android, and collectible action figures.

Simba Toys, whose product ranges feature SpongeBob SquarePants and Disney properties, will represent Bugsted for EMEA. Toys will be rolled out simultaneously with the mini-series and game app this coming September.

Last month, Vodka, also creators of the popular Jelly Jam brand, secured a co-production partnership with Anima Estudios for the Bugsted project, and last fall Televisa joined as a co-producer and licensing agent in Mexico.

Bugsteds evolved from a regular bug and are spontaneous cloners. The TV series and game app follows their humorous attempts to return to their home on the Moon. Vodka is currently in talks with television channels in Europe and the US and hopes to secure partnerships in the near future.
