Little Airplane Productions’ animated TV movie Meet the Small Potatoes will make its official US debut on February 15 on Disney Channel and Disney Junior, while Universal Studios Home Entertainment has picked up North American DVD and digital-format distribution rights.
The 45-minute movie tells the history of the band the Small Potatoes and follows the rise, breakup and triumphant comeback of the four singing spuds. The movie stars the voice of Malcolm McDowell (Entourage, Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness) as the band’s manager.
Meet the Small Potatoes is written and directed by Little Airplane’s Founder and President Josh Selig. The music was also produced at Little Airplane and includes original songs by the late Jerry Bock (Fiddler on the Roof).
The Small Potatoes TV series, which airs on Disney Junior, has garnered an online following of more than 1.5 million Facebook fans. The brand’s digital presence extended to an online promotion that began this Fall that encouraged parents to submit photos of their child to be transformed into the trademark potato avatars. Hundreds of avatars of Small Potatoes fans, selected through the online campaign, are now part of the Meet the Small Potatoes cast and are featured in shots throughout the film.
