Imangi Studio’s hugely successful Temple Run app, which has been downloaded more than 160 million times since launching in 2011, is getting its first official sequel, aptly titled Temple Run 2.
Available now for iOS devices, the sequel picks up where the first game left off and features high-res graphics, new obstacles, abilities, player powers and achievements. Temple Run 2 takes place in a new and more challenging world filled where players must fly down zip lines and speed along in mine carts to get away from temple dwellers and retain control of the coveted idol. Temple Run 2 for Android devices will be available in upcoming weeks.
The new app follows a busy 2012 marked by several licensing partnerships inked by brand extension agency Dimensional Branding Group, which included digital comics from Ape Entertainment, board games from Spin Master and JEM Sportswear/Awake apparel. Temple Run has been a featured app in the launch of Toys ‘R’ Us’ proprietary tablet Tabeo as well as in the marketing campaign of the Nikon Coolpix line of cameras. In June, Imangi and Disney Pixar launched Temple Run: Brave, a spinoff app that featured the world of Disney Pixar’s animated fantasy adventure, Brave.
