UK-based indie children’s book publisher Walker Books has hired Ed Ripley as its UK sales and marketing director and sales director for Walker Group Export.

Ripley will begin his new position in spring 2013 after completing a 10-year stint as Pan Macmillan’s UK sales director of children’s books.

In his new position, Ripley will look to increase the publisher’s share of the children’s book market in the UK and overseas.

For the transition, Kate Beal has been appointed interim UK marketing director and will continue to act as head of UK sales managing publicity, consumer, and trade marketing. She will report to Ripley.

The news comes on the heels of Julia Posen’s appointment in September to the newly created position of EVP and commercial director at The Walker Books Group’s new group rights and development division.
