Disney Junior has picked up the rights to the TV movie debut of Little Airplane Productions’ Small Potatoes – Meet the Small Potatoes, a 45-minute animated rock mockumentary.

The movie’s American premiere is set for early 2013 on Disney Channel and Disney Junior, and it will debut on Disney Junior in Japan in late 2013.

Small Potatoes – Meet the Small Potatoes follows the rise, break-up and triumphant comeback of a group of singing spuds and stars acclaimed actor Malcolm McDowell (Entourage, Clockwork Orange) as the band’s manager.

Hundreds of customized potato avatars of Disney Junior and Small Potatoes fans will also be featured in the movie thanks to an upcoming online program where parents can submit photos of their child to be transformed into the special potato avatars. The program launches on DisneyJunior.com/SmallPotatoes beginning November 5.

Little Airplane’s Josh Selig (Wonder Pets, 3rd & Bird) wrote and directed the movie. Its music was written and produced by the Little Airplane team and features original songs by the late Jerry Bock (Fiddler on the Roof).
