Taking a page from LeapFrog, Techno Source, Inspiration Works and other kids tablet makers, Toys ‘R’ Us has stepped into the market with tabeo, its first wi-fi-enabled kids tablet.

The 7-inch, multi-touch tablet has a 4GB memory, a protective bumper and will be available at Toys ‘R’ Us locations across the US from October 21, retailing for US$149.99.

tabeo features 50 free, preinstalled entertainment and educational apps and parental controls to customize levels of internet access. Featured apps include AlphaTots, Discovery Kids Putterbugs, Operation Math, TechCalc, Angry Birds, Fruit Ninja, Cut the Rope, Temple Run, Putt Putt Zoo, Freddy Fish, iStorybooks, Candy Factory and Little Red Riding Hood.

The device also includes the tabeo App Store where an additional 7,000 free kid-friendly apps and thousands of paid age-appropriate apps are available for parents to load onto the tabeo.

Wi-fi features include levels of security for up to eight users and a filter that can block 27 predetermined categories of content.

Additional information will be released on tabeo.com in the coming weeks.
