With the goal of branching out beyond the kids biz, long-time Spin Master exec Matt Wexler has left the Toronto, Canada-based company.

After more than 12 years at the toyco, Wexler determined that he needed to diversify beyond children’s entertainment and decided to leave the company this past summer. He intends to hang his own shingle and is currently looking at getting involved in projects in the digital and primetime adult TV spaces, as well as pursuing opportunities in the kids space.

In 2008, Wexler was instrumental in establishing the toyco’s content division, Spin Master Entertainment, and most recently held the post of executive producer. During his tenure at Spin Master Entertainment, he was involved with the productions of Bakugan (with Nelvana) and Redakai (with Marathon Media) and additional unannounced series currently in production.

Spin Master Entertainment, meanwhile, continues to work on producing new original series, with Wexler’s former counterpart Jennifer Dodge retaining her executive producer role at the company.
