Jake gets a new primetime special

Riding the success of its Jake and the Never Land Pirates animated preschool series, Disney Junior is set to premiere a new primetime special, Jake and the Never Land Pirates: Jake Saves Bucky, on International Talk Like A Pirate Day on September 19 (7-8 p.m. ET/PT) on Disney Channel.

The special comes after the series’ first primetime special, Jake and the Never Land Pirates: Peter Pan Returns, was the most-watched cable telecast in nearly 10 years in the kids two to five age group after its debut in February 2012.

The latest adventure sees Peter Pan return to Never Land to help Jake and his crew win back their ship Bucky after losing it in a race against Captain Hook and the Jolly Roger.

Disney Channel’s Disney Junior programming block will also bow a new short-form series entitled Playing With Skully (featuring David Arquette as the voice of Jake’s parrot Skully) on the same day (9:55 a.m., 10:25 a.m., 10:55 a.m., 11:55 a.m., 12:25 p.m. and 12:55 p.m. ET/PT)

In addition, the Disney Junior website will launch Jake’s Heroic Race, four mini-games based on Jake and the Never Land Pirates: Jake Saves Bucky.

Subscribers of Disney Channel on Demand can catch a full-length preview of the new special on September 12 while the new free video streaming app WATCH Disney Channel will simulcast the special in conjunction with the September 19 premiere on Disney Channel.
