Further increasing its product portfolio, US toymaker Jakks Pacific has acquired Maui Toys, an Ohio-based manufacturer and distributor of spring and summer activity toys including the popular Wave Hoop and Sky Ball brands.

The deal sees Jakks, which manufactures Pokemon, Monsuno, Winx and Hello Kitty toys, acquire all of the shares of stock of 24-year-old, privately held Maui Toys and its Hong Kong-based affiliate A.S. Design Limited. The business is comprised of proprietary non-licensed brands.

Jakks has stated it expects the new acquisition will be accretive to earnings in 2013, and the determination of the impact to 2012 is subject to completion of the purchase price allocation for 2012 which has not yet been completed.

The acquisition comes on the heels of Jakks reporting a second quarter 2012 net sales increase of 10%, to US$145.4 million, helped by strong demand for Monsuno, Winx Club and Disney fairy dolls and Cabbage Patch Kids.
