In a partnership with Iceland-based LazyTown Entertainment, Cartoon Network Enterprises (CNE), the licensing and merchandising arm of Turner Broadcasting’s Cartoon Network, has acquired the exclusive North American licensing rights to Turner’s hit health-themed preschool property LazyTown.

The latest deal further expands the global reach of the IP which Turner CN Enterprises currently reps in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

LazyTown the half-hour TV series, which is created by and stars Icelander Magnus Scheving, now airs in more than 170 countries and production on its third season began in Iceland last month.

The concept of LazyTown was originally published in a book after Scheving created LazyTown Entertainment in 1992. A successful live show came next in 1999, followed by the TV series in 2004 and a growing consumer products program, which now includes music, games, radio, DVDs, nutritious beverages and publishing.

Just a quick edit to your article. The tv series premiered in 2004, not 1999. That was the year of the 2nd stageplay.
