Pukeko, Grand partner with Beijing Film Academy

Wellington, New Zealand-based Pukeko Pictures and fellow Kiwi prodco Grand Entertainment have signed a deal with the Animation School of the Beijing Film Academy to establish the International Animation Technology Joint Research Centre at the Chinese learning institution.

Wellington, New Zealand-based Pukeko Pictures and fellow Kiwi prodco Grand Entertainment have signed a deal with the Animation School of the Beijing Film Academy to establish the International Animation Technology Joint Research Centre at the Chinese learning institution.

The Centre will actively promote the development of animated projects and bolster cooperation between the New Zealand and Chinese film and television markets.

The first collaboration involves Pukeko preschool series The WotWots. The initial plans include the co-production of eps that will be tailored-made for the Chinese domestic market.

The partnership also calls for Grand Entertainment to create the annual Sir Richard Taylor Award for the Animation School of the Beijing Film Academy. The award will fund winners and outstanding students to further their studies in animation.

The three-party agreement was born out of the success of  The WotWots has experienced in the Asian market. The series is broadcast on many platforms across China, including free-to-air, satellite, IPTV, internet and mobile TV.
