Scotland-based Red Kite Animations (part of Singapore’s August Media Holdings) has aligned with Wendy Promotions (WPL) to produce Wendy (26 x 30-minute), a girl-skewing 3D adaptation of the European equestrian-themed children’s magazine of the same name.

The series, which targets girls six to nine, follows the equestrian centered life of teenage heroine Wendy who lives on a stud farm and has become an accomplished rider and show jumper.

European broadcasters ZDF and France Télévisions have commissioned the Ken Anderson-produced series. ZDF is on-board as co-production partner for German-speaking Europe and the distribution partner in charge for territories such as Scandinavia, Benelux, Italy, Spain, Portugal, CEE, Canada, Japan, South Korea and Latin America.

Wendy Promotions (WPL) is a joint venture between Scandinavian media group Egmont and UK publisher DC Thomson.

The announcement comes after Red Kite recently expanded its development team by hiring Leanne Preston as its development manager.
