Disney is teaming up with retail giant Target and actress Julie Andrews to create the first National Princess Week, which will kick off on April 22, 2012.

The event coincides with the 10th anniversary of the film The Princess Diaries, in which Andrews stars, and is designed to highlight Andrews’ work on stage, in movies and as a bestselling children’s author.

During the week, Target and Target.com will feature an array of Disney Princess merchandise, such as apparel, toys and books, that features princess characters such as Ariel, Cinderella and Snow White. The week will also highlight the newest release in The Very Fairy Princess children’s book franchise, The Very Fairy Princess Here Comes the Flower Girl!, co-authored by Andrew’s daughter and Emma Walton Hamilton.

Andrews, meanwhile, will be getting her own royal treatment today in New York. She’s being honored with the Prince Rainier III Award for her contribution to motion picture, television and theater arts during the Princess Grace Awards Gala.
