Toronto, Canada-based Skyreader Media, part of Skywriter Media and Entertainment Group’s recently established eReading division, has signed international children’s author-illustrator Leslie McGuirk as the company’s first resident author for its new eBook platform. The announcement follows the release of four interactive eBook apps created with the company’s proprietary Skyreader technology platform last month.

In addition to creating new interactive eBook titles for initial launch on the Apple iPad, McGuirk will work closely with Skyreader Media to transform many of her children’s series including Pip the Penguin, Tucker and Snail Boy into eBooks for other iOS and emerging tablet devices.

Originally published in Japan, McGuirk’s illustrations were made into more than 800 products for the high-end department store Takashimaya. Her designs have been featured on carpeting, fabric and wallpaper for Tokyo Disneyland Hotel. McGuirk’s latest book, Wiggens Learns His Manners, co-written with Alex Von Bidder, was featured on The Martha Stewart Show, and in Town & Country Magazine and People.com.

Skyreader Media was recently created as a means to deliver Skywriter’s 200-hour library of TV content and more than 1,500 children’s book titles in a scalable fashion to eReaders around the world.
