International children’s channel KidsCo is launching a second channel in Africa, BigTV, which marks the first KidsCo brand extension. It will offer live action programming to eight-to-14- year-olds, 24/7 on the continent.

BigTV is set to go live August 1 on the My TV satellite platform. My TV will offer both KidsCo and BigTV in its basic package to all subscribers. Shows including Chuck Finn and My Parents are Aliens are part of the new channel’s program offering to be broadcast across sub-Saharan Africa.

KidsCo is evaluating plans to expand the channel globally. Until now, KidsCo has focused on delivering educational entertainment to six- to 10-year-olds. The launch of BigTV will enable the brand to engage with an older market.

And in related news, KidsCo has expanded its Portuguese presence after inking a deal with Vodafone Portugal that goes live this month. KidsCo’s programming, including shows like The Wiggles and Fat Dog Mendoza, will be available 24 hours a day seven days a week on Vodafone’s Casa TV in both English and Poruguese.
