Social gaming company Mind Candy granted Penguin Group the global license to launch a series of books based on its Moshi Monsters online game.
The social game allows children to adopt their own free pet monster, play games, customize their homes, explore the virtual world and solve educational puzzles. The first book to be published during the deal will explore one of the most popular elements of the game, Moshlings, which are collectible little creatures that serve as pets of the Moshi. Two books are planned for release in 2010 globally and a further five will follow in 2011.
The decision to begin expansion offline follows a strong performance for Moshi Monsters in 2009, where the brand grew tenfold.
