Toonz opens L.A. distribution branch, seeks third-party rights

Indian animation company Toonz Animation has opened a new L.A.-based distribution division, Toonz Entertainment, USA.

Indian animation company Toonz Animation has opened a new L.A.-based distribution division, Toonz Entertainment, USA.

Toonz Entertainment will take on the worldwide sales and distribution of animated feature films, direct-to-video content and TV series. The division’s initial distribution slate consists of Wolverine and X-Men (seasons 1 and 2), Speed Racer 2, Speed Racer Classic, Mostly Ghostly 2 and 3 and Freefonix, as well as other properties.

Toonz has appointed Matt Cooperstein as EVP to oversee the strategic and operational functions of the company. Cooperstein has more than 20 years of experience in launching innovative programs and distributing them throughout the US and worldwide marketplace, and has worked with studios such as ITC Entertainment Group, Polygram Television, Universal Worldwide Television, IndieArts Entertainment and most recently, Liberation Entertainment.

Toonz is a major provider of 2-D, 3-D, Flash, stop-motion animation and VFX to top US and European producers, including Marvel, Hallmark, Paramount, Disney, BBC and Cartoon Network.
