Toronto’s Shaftesbury Films is partnering with Canada’s Family Channel on a new half-hour teen comedy series, Baxter.

The first 13 episodes are in production and are scheduled to air later this year on the Astral Television Network channel.

Baxter follows title character Baxter McNab (Evan Williams, Degrassi: The Next Generation) and his friends on their journey through the high-energy world that is Northern Star School of the Arts. Though his stand-up comedy style might rub some teachers and other students the wrong way, Baxter sees that great friends are the key to survival, and that Northern Star is a crazy amazing way to spend high school.

Alex Pugsley and Daphne Ballon (Life with Derek) created the series, which is executive produced by Christina Jennings and Scott Gravie, and produced by Suzanne French for Shaftesbury Films. The Canadian Television Fund, Shaw Rocket Fund and Bell Broadcast and New Media Fund have all been tapped for the new comedy. Shaftesbury Sales Company holds Canadian and International rights.
