Kidlit series The Berenstain Bears is getting the film treatment, as Walden Media snaps up the film rights to produce the family comedy with Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps and Corus-owned Nelvana.

The live-action film will be mixed with CG characters inspired by those in the classic book series published by HarperCollins Children’s Books. Levy’s 21 Laps has produced such family-friendly films as Night at the Museum (1 & 2) and Cheaper by the Dozen 2.

Billy Rosenberg will oversee the project for 21 Laps, while Walden’s Evan Turner, VP of production & development, will head up the project with CEO Michael Bostick. Nelvana’s Doug Murphy and Irene Weibel, VP of international development and co-production, are also on board to manage.
