Nickelodeon has greenlit season two of preschool series Ni Hao, Kai-lan, and start airing the first of 20 new half-hour eps in the US on Monday, May 11.

The second season focuses on more complex social-emotional issues, including hitting and separation anxiety, and aims to impart lessons to young viewers on how to better express and deal with their feelings, as well as continuing to teach Mandarin words and phrases.

Meanwhile, down under, Nick Australia nabbed its second Channel of the Year title at the 7th ASTRA Awards held last night at Sydney’s Royal Hall of Industries.

The kidnet also came away with the award for Most Outstanding Children’s Program (Camp Orange: The Curse of The Emerald Eye), and saw some impressive ratings this past Easter Monday, dominating with a 12.8% share among K5 to 12.

Over the Easter long weekend, Avatar: The Last Airbender saw its largest viewership of the year with a total audience of 93,000. SpongeBob SquarePants also saw its best result of the year with the same number of viewers who watched the special ep SpongeBob vs. The Big Wave.
