With the US covered by a multi-rights deal with 4Kids Entertainment, Ottawa, Canada-based Amberwood Entertainment is taking its boys CGI series Rollbots out for a spin on the international scene this fall. The goal, says VP of sales and acquisitions Jonathan Wiseman, is to secure terrestrial broadcasters in the UK, Germany, France, Spain and Italy post-MIPCOM, using the market to continue discussions with broadcasters in Latin America and Australia.
4Kids picked up Amberwood’s 26 x half-hour co-pro with YTV to run on its Saturday morning block The CW4Kids starting in February. But the company also believes in Rollbots’ consumer products potential enough to represent the property worldwide as its licensing agent. Wiseman believes he has found a natural partner for the comedy-adventure series. ’4Kids has really strong experience with this genre, in particular,’ he says. ‘Look at what it did with Pokémon, and now it has a really great campaign for Chaotic.’
The property is already well on its way to retail, with Mattel picking up master toy rights last fall and working on a program that is sure to include action figures. Amberwood’s online partner, Toronto, Canada’s Xenophile, is also hard at work developing Rollbots’ internet presence and already has a beta website up and running.
