To mark the launch of Disney Channel UK’s new Famous Five series today, the net is giving kids across the country a chance to pen their own adventure story.

Disney Channel has partnered up with Hodder, publisher of Enid Blyton’s Famous Five book series to encourage young would-be novelists to write a Famous Five-inspired adventure story. The winning entry will be produced as a limited-edition book and audio podcast.

Kids will be provided with the opening sentence, which they will need to develop into a work of their own using the original books and the Disney/Chorion/Marathon series as source material.

A celebrity judges panel, including Cressida Cowell, author of the Hiccup the Viking books and Jon Lee, voice of Max in Famous Five: On the Case, has been lined up.

Competitors will be split into two groups: kids nine and under and kids age nine to 11.

Disney Channel website (www.disneychannel.co.uk) is fielding submissions.

The competition closes on July 31, 2008, and the winners will be named in September.
