Galactik Football program kick offs with World Cup

Piggybacking this summer’s World Cup in Germany and capitalizing on the football fever gripping Europe right now, Jetix is seeking licensees for its new soccer-in-space property Galactik Football. Hitting Jetix Europe’s airwaves this spring, the 2D/CGI tween-skewing show follows the fortunes of the magical Snow Kids football team from the planet Akillian. The commercial arm of the broadcaster is on the hunt for apparel and publishing licensees to create goods for the first merch wave set to roll out this fall. Secondary categories including sports equipment, accessories, stationery, home décor and shoes will follow sometime in 2007. Consumer products head of international sales and marketing Richard Woolf is also considering playing up the wintery aspects of the property, with hopes of drawing in more girls by locking down partners for skiing and ice skating apparel, accessories and equipment.

Suzy’s Zoo to go wild at Japanese retail

In a unique move, Earthworks Entertainment has awarded Sony Group’s retail sales division both master licensing and distribution rights to Suzy’s Zoo in Japan, marking the preschool property’s entry into the market. The deal covers all major categories, and products from the Suzy Spafford book series will snake their way through Sony Plaza’s 100-plus retail outlets this spring. As master licensor, Sony Plaza Stores will pitch product based on the furry creatures to other specialty chains and mass-market stores. A television series is in the works for the property, though Earthworks is keeping mum on the details.
