Japanime TV property Digimon: Digital Monsters, which currently airs on Fox Kids Network in the U.S., is jumping into publishing. Saban Entertainment, holder of the U.S. pub rights to the series, has inked separate deals with Modern Publishing and HarperCollins to create its own lines of Digimon books. New York-based Modern is creating Digimon activity, sticker, tattoo, coloring and story books; the latter two will begin shipping to stores this month. HarperCollins will create two strategy guide books and four (6′ x 9′) digest books. The first guide book will feature info on the 206 characters, or Digimon, that populate the show; the second will explain strategies involved in playing and collecting the Digimon trading card games, put out by Upper Deck, which Bandai began distributing to select accounts in December. All of HarperCollins’ Digimon titles are expected to hit book, toy, specialty and mass retailers in April.
