Munich-based kids TV giant EM.TV & Merchandising has signed a US$773-million co-financing deal with Kaufbeuren, Germany-based Victory Media Management for 100 animated television series over the next five years.

Stephanie Schausser, EM.TV spokesperson, says the goal is to produce 20 new animated series per year, including both brand new fare and second runs of series including Saban’s Pigs Next Door, Mainframe Entertainment’s Weird-Ohs, Wild Brain’s Poochini’s Yard and Mad Monk, and Lapitch, a co-pro between EM.TV subsidiary HaffaDiebold and Croatia Films. The first 20 series, at a cost of approximately US$8 million per 26-ep run, should be finished by the end of 2000.

Victory Media Management will pick up one-third of the cost of each production, while EM.TV will cover the remaining costs or share them with co-pro partners. EM.TV maintains all distribution rights, as well as merchandising and video rights.

In other news, EM.TV expanded its Junior.TV library by 800 half hours through the acquisition of 50% of Israel-based prodco Talit Productions. Junior now comprises 28,500 half hours. AD
