The Disney Channel has backed up its recent emphasis on producing new live-action series by hiring Susie Norris-Epstein as VP of original series. Norris-Epstein, formerly executive director of current series for the West Coast division of Nickelodeon, will oversee development and production of all original series, including Bear in the Big Blue House, Out of the Box, Z Games, The Famous Jett Jackson, PB & J Otter, and So Weird, an original half-hour drama series exploring paranormal phenomena that launches this month.

Speaking about her future plans, Norris-Epstein says, ‘we’ll be doing more live-action than animation, as most of our animation is acquisition, and we will really be concentrating on ages two to 11 with a lot of comedy, a lot of adventure and a lot of kid drama.’ She adds that she is currently considering a ‘large slate’ of pilots, along with senior VP of programming and production, Gary Marsh, to determine which will be developed into series.
