Artisan’s Family Home Entertainment is resurrecting its decade-old Christmas Classics series, after five years of dormancy, with three new titles for Christmas 1999. Budgeted at between US$1 million and US$1.5 million each, the three 48-minute, direct-to-video productions will be called Jingle Bells, We Wish You a Merry Christmas, and O, Christmas Tree. Artisan is the sole producer of all three, with Hyperion Studio doing the cel animation.

President Glenn Ross says Family Home Entertainment will continue to add a few original titles to its catalog each year, but they will not always fall under the Christmas Classics label. ‘We are not in the volume business,’ he says, ‘what we are looking to do is create three or four events every year, whether they be Christmas, whether they be Easter, or whether they just be a great story that comes our way.’ As of press time, Family Home Entertainment was looking at getting the rights to a ‘very well-known children’s book’ to use as the basis for a release in the year 2000.
