New York-based Grey Advertising is launching a full-service youth marketing unit this month called G-Whiz!. Headed by president Barbara Martino, the unit will share offices with Grey, but will function autonomously. G-Whiz! will serve clients targeting kids and teens, as well as young adults, and is already working with video game company Konami for advertising, Hasbro’s Pokémon line for advertising and Warner Bros. for promotions for undetermined teen movies. G-Whiz! will operate a proprietary 18 & Under Pulse section that will keep in touch with 600 students throughout the U.S. via its Web site (www.g-whizyouth.com). The section will be broken into areas looking at purchase influence, what’s hot and demographics, to be updated quarterly. Martino is aiming to double G-Whiz!’s staff (from the current eight) and billings by the end of 1999.
