Following Nickelodeon’s recent foray into the Brazilian market, Nick and global communications corp., Metromedia International, are planning a fourth quarter launch of a 24-hour, Russian-language channel in the CIS and Baltic Republics. Nickelodeon Latin America launched a 24-hour Portugese-language feed dedicated to Brazil in August, since, according to Nickelodeon, Brazilian kids felt they were not getting programming that suited their interests, and wanted more animation with less repetition. Nick Latin America has been around since 1996, and before that, Brazilian audiences had a daily, four-hour branded Nickelodeon block on Globosat. Nick Latin America is carried in over one million homes in Brazil and the new network is expected to get the same interest.
