Toronto-based Nelvana Communications has acquired 25-year-old children’s book publisher Kids Can Press in a US$4 million deal that gives the prolific animation studio a 250-title library of children’s literary properties-fodder for future TV series. One of the company’s most successful show to date, Franklin, is based on a Kids Can children’s book that has sold over 16 million copies. Nelvana and Kids Can are currently developing several other properties for the tube, including Elliot Moose, a book for preschoolers by Canadian author and illustrator Andrea Black.
