Denmark’s International Television Entertainment (ITE) has grown a new arm that will focus more specifically on the expanding interactive games industry. ITE Media is planning to add to its list of six CD-ROMs and two Nintendo Game Boy titles starring Hugo, a children’s character that hosts a live game show called Hugo the TV Troll. In addition, the new department will release a Hugo-based Sony PlayStation title in August and is working on two non-Hugo games called Tush-Tush and Stinky and the Beaver. ITE’s TV and interactive Hugo products have been particularly successful in Germany where the Hugo game show had been recently added to the lineup of now-defunct Nickelodeon Germany, but managing director Jesper Helbrandt says the next step for the company is to break into non-European markets. ‘Our goal is to find distributors in the United States and Japan,’ says Helbrandt. ‘We feel that the PlayStation title will take us there.
